Former MCC football player and weight thrower, Clifford Starks, will fight on UFC 137

Mountain Pointe HS graduate to make MMA debut Oct. 29

The MMA craze that is sweeping the nation has found its way to the East Valley.

Former Mesa Thunderbirds football player and weight thrower, Clifford Starks, will make his professional MMA debut at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 29, according to mmajunkie.com.

Starks earned his associates degree from Mesa CC in 2002 and transferred to Arizona State University where he earned his undergraduate in kinesiology. 

The 30-year-old from Sacramento, CA is fighting out of Tempe, Arizona, and takes his unblemished record (7-0) into the ring against fellow newcomer Dustin Jacoby.  The two will square off on the main event's prelimary card.

Jacoby is also unbeaten at 6-0. 

Starks is a boxing, Muay Thai, and wrestling specialist, having trained alongside UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez on the campus of Arizona State University.
