Mount San Antonio College
Walnut, CA
October 14, 2011
Hilly terrain, unusually warm weather and tough competition greeted Mesa runners on Friday morning in Walnut, CA. Most of the Mesa squad responded to the challenge with perhaps their best performance of the season. The lady T-Birds were once again led home by the ever reliable trio of Taylor Stewart, Kirsten Behla and Melody Courtney to finish 6th out of 21 teams. Stewart sauntered over the hills of Mt SAC to finish in an impressive 19:05.
The men's team bettered the ladies by one place as they took 5th place out of 19 schools. Carlos Roa and Eddie Martinez ran side by side for much of the race, until Roa put on the afterburners in the closing mile. Brent Sewell and Efren Luque also worked together, finishing only 10 seconds apart. The team was rounded out by the back-in-form Dallas Yarbrough who described the event as "4 miles of uphill amazingness."
