Coach Hargrave and Staff Back from Team Camp

Coach Hargrave and staff have just returned from a mini camp in Snowflake as Thunderbird football hopefuls got out of the Valley heat for the camp that focused on football basics. Along with the team, ten coaches accompanied the players to Snowflake for the camp. 
“We reached the goals we had set in place prior to heading in,” says Coach Hargrave in his first year at the helm of the storied Thunderbirds. 
Coach Hargrave will dress 85 men for the first game versus Scottsdale on September 5 at home. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
Currently there are nearly 150 men vying for a spot on the team. Some of them will be grey-shirted (cannot practice), others red-shirted (can practice), and some will be disappointed as is often the case when it comes to making the final roster decisions. 
The Snowflake camp had a guest coach in Bill McCane, a former Mesa High Football Coach, who helped oversee the men who are experiencing new things and beginning to buy in to the new system which will include multiple offensive sets and spreads. 
Rob Fredrickson, a new Linebackers Coach, brings nine years of NFL experience to the fold. He spent time with the Raiders, Lions, and Cardinals organizations. 
Coach Jeff Thompson will be the Quarterbacks Coach and assist the Offensive Coordinator. Thompson last coached at Desert Vista HS and brings 20 years of coaching experience from the Cleveland, Ohio area.
Jerome Daniels will coach the Offensive Line and bring with him nine years of NFL experience, playing for the Ravens, Buccaneers, and Cardinals.
Edmond Bardwell, an MCC graduate, will coach the Running Backs. His experience in the NFL and CFL will be pivotal in this his first year coaching.
Benard Wilson will coach the Defensive Line and bring seven years of NFL experience to the mix. Wilson played for the Lions, Cardinals, and Buccaneers.
Denver Latimore has been with Mesa for nearly 20 years and will act as the Assistant Defensive Line Coach. Latimore, a decorated Marine, will also be the Head Strength Coach.
Forest Washington will be a Defensive Assistant. The former MCC football player’s youthful vigor will be an asset to the coaching staff.
Sam Elliot will be a Defensive Assistant. Tim Zajac will act as the Recruiting Coordinator. Jaimel Hill, the son of JD Hill (former Bill, Lion, and Sun Devil), will be the Assistant Strength Coach and Tight Ends Coach.
Kwamie Lassiter will coach the Secondary. Lassiter played 10 NFL seasons with the Cardinals, Rams, and Chargers. 
Travis Bromley is the student assistant in charge of film editing. 
Practice starts up again on Tuesday, August 11 with two-a-days. Players will take the field at 6:30 a.m. for two hours. They will come back at 5:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 
Mesa’s home games include the aforementioned Scottsdale, in addition to Phoenix College, Snow College, Eastern Arizona, and New Mexico Military (Homecoming). Road games include Eastern Arizona, Arizona Western, Glendale, Scottsdale, and Pima.
