Men's Golfers Live In Top Three

Men Keep Streak of Top Three Finishes

 
Mesa’s Men’s Golf Team continued their strong play last week taking second place at the Chandler –Gilbert Invitational March 15-16, finishing third at the Glendale Community College Invitational March 18-19, and taking another third at the Paradise Valley Invitational March 29-30.  The men have not finished worse than third place this year.
 
The Chandler-Gilbert tourney took place at Toka Sticks Golf Club right here in Mesa March 15th and 16th. The T-Birds shot a 578 and finished 12 strokes behind first place Scottsdale. Mesa led after day one with a 286, but could not hold off a hot Artichokes round of 277 on day two. Gavin Kwon led the way for the men finishing in second place. He shot a 68-71 to finish at 138, five under par for the tourney, falling to the winner by only one stroke. His 68 was the low round of the day for day one. Kevin Witte, Eddie Delashmutt, and Ryan Mahoney also fired solid rounds finishing eighth, 11th, and 13th respectively. As a team the Thunderbirds shot +2 and beat third place South Mountain by 13 strokes.
 
On March 18th and 19th the men teed it up at Palm Valley Golf Club in Litchfield, AZ for the Glendale Community College Invitational. They fired a 607 to finish in third place behind Scottsdale and the winners, South Mountain. The T-Birds had a rough first day shooting a 312 and leaving themselves in fifth place. They fought back on day two to shoot a 295 and finish in the top three. Kevin Witte, Eddie Delashmutt, and Gavin Kwon played well again finishing in fifth, 16th, and 17th place respectively. Kwon’s second day 71 was the low round of the day. The course came in at a Par 72, 7015 yards, with a slope of 133, and rating of 73.4. The course played tough as only two players in the whole field shot below par. 
 
On March 29-30 the men hit the links at Wildfire Golf Club for the Paradise Valley Invitational.  They shot a 590 to finish in third place, 16 strokes behind the winners, Scottsdale CC.  South Mountain finished second at 577.  Kevin Witte was the face of consistancy shooting back-to-back 71's to finish -2 in second place.  Ryan Mahoney finished at +3 to take seventh.  Eddie Delashmutt took 12th shooting a 5 over round.  Gavin Kwon finished in 23rd, stepping off the 18th tee at +8.  The Arnold Palmer course was a Par 72 coming in at 7145 yards.

The men are back in action April 12-13 for the Gateway Community College Invitational at Kokopelli Golf Club in Gilbert, AZ.
