Mahoney Leads Mesa To First Win of Season

The Mesa Community College Men’s Golf team picked up their first win of the season March 11 when they shot a 285 to take the win at the Postom Butte Classic in Florence, AZ.

Mesa golfers were all over the top of the leaderboard in this one. Ryan Mahoney led the way shooting a three under 69 and taking second place overall. Eddie Delashmutt and Kevin Witte tied for third place, both shooting a one under 71. Gavin Kwon was not far behind in sixth place shooting a two over 74. Craig Clifford fired a solid round, taking tenth place behind his five over 77.

It is this kind of team performance that will lead to more victories for the Thunderbirds in the future. Postom Butte comes in at 6820 yards, with a slope of 125 and a 72.3 rating.

Mesa beat Concordia-St. Paul by six strokes, 285-291. Wabash College and Upper Iowa University finished third (313) and fourth (323) respectively.

The tourneys keep coming for the T-Birds. They just finished competing in the Chandler-Gilbert Invite March 15-16 at the Toka Sticks Golf Club in Mesa. Scores for that event will be posted in the coming days. Mesa is back in action March 18-19 for the Glendale CC Invitational at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Litchfield, AZ.
