Coach Hill's ladies coming together
After a rough start to the 2012 campaign, Coach Hill and the Mesa Lady T'Birds have won three straight games and were leading in a fourth before a game was called due to darkness at Scottsdale on Valentine's Day.
Mesa completed a sweep of Paradise Valley on Saturday, February 18, 5-0, and 9-4, after defeating Scottsdale on February 14, 10-4 in game one. The nightcap of that double-dip was suspended due to darkness with Mesa leading 6-3 in the top of the 5th inning.
Mesa's win over Paradise Valley was highlighted by a three-run homer from Amanda Romero in the 6th inning of game two, breaking open a tight game. Mesa is now 3-8 on the season and will continue a previously-suspended game vs. Gateway this Thursday, February 23 at 2:00 p.m.
That contest is all tied at 1-1 in the top of the 5th inning. The continuation is from the opening day double-header against Gateway, which Gateway won the first contest, 12-9.
Mesa's first win of the season came in the first game of a double-header over Scottsdale on Valentine's Day.
Leading the way for the Lady T'Birds in that first win were Amanda Romero, who had three hits and two RBI. Ashley Gonzalez also added two hits and three RBI. Theresa Camille Lopez chipped in with three hits and two RBI, as Kelsey Clark pitched in with two base knocks.
