MESA, AZ – The Arizona Diamondbacks honored Mesa track and field star Pau Tonnensen (So., Tempe, AZ)in a ceremony just prior to the start of Wednesday night’s game.

The D-Backs saluted Tonnensen’s amazing accomplishment of winning all four multi-event national championships during his MCC career. He captured the heptathlon indoors and the decathlon outdoors both years and set national records in the process.

As part of the ceremony, the Diamondbacks posted photos of Tonnensen on their center field video board and then had him throw out the ceremonial first pitch. He zipped a strike to all-star pitcher Patrick Corbin. Tonnensen was also presented with his own D-Backs jersey with his name on the back.

In his remarkable years at Mesa, Tonnensen not only won the multi-event titles, but this year captured the pole vault championships both indoors and outdoors.

He was also named NJCAA all-academic with a 3.64 GPA in his concentration of Industry and Economy.

Tonnensen will attend the University of Arizona in the fall where he is expected to be an important component of the Wildcats’ track and field team.
