Jacob McBride took care of some unfinished business on Saturday afternoon. One week earlier McBride missed out on the National qualifying standard by a tantalizing three centimetres in the weight throw. On this occasion, the Mesa freshman heaved the weight 15m 66cm to win the competition and easily qualify for the big dance.

Elsewhere on the field, it was a double for Mesa throwers when Jessica Schmitt and Anna Padgett went one-two for the Thunderbirds in the women's shot. Padgett also finished second in the women's weight throw.

Mesa's depth in the 400m was in evidence once again as both the men's and women's 4x400m teams raced to victory. In the men's race the Mesa 'B' team also took third place. Earlier on in the day, Mesa 400m specialists, Jameson Castille and Todd Kirchener were first to hit the tape when they moved up to the 600m race distance.
