Head Coach Ku Salinas enters her fourth season for the Lady Thunderbird Volleyball Program. The roster is set and practice began on August 1. The team practices in the Theo Heap Gym, where home games are played, from 4-7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The ladies will play three scrimmages, the first being Saturday, August 8 at Embry Riddle at 4:00 p.m. The second scrimmage is set for Friday, August 14 at Grand Canyon University at 5:00 p.m. The third scrimmage will take place Saturday, August 29 at Southwestern College at 5:00 p.m.
The regular season opens at home on Friday, August 28 versus Glendale at 7:00 p.m.
Assistant coaches all return from last year with one addition as former Libero Jennifer Nunez remains on board, this time with a clipboard. Former player Jae Sevy returns for her second year as an assistant and her brother Brett Sevy is the Team Manager. Finally, Ku’s husband Miguel Salinas, rounds out the coaching staff.
The team returns four players from the 2008 season as Jenna Prescott will take over the Libero spot. Outside Hitter Codi Sichling, also an MCC Tennis player, returns for her sophomore season, as does Setter Jackie Blahak and Middle Blocker Teale Ellis.
Eight incoming freshman will allow Ku a deep rotation and some youth to go along with it. Most of the girls are home-grown talent from right here in the Valley, but two join us from out-of-state.
