Pulled away in first half, then coasted to victory
The #8 Mesa Lady Thunderbirds took it to Coach Bike Medder's Lady Artichokes on Wednesday, December 7 at Theo Heap Gym, 66-49, to move to 6-2 on the season.
Mesa's stifling defense was too much for Scottsdale as Kalasia Green hampered the green-clad guards all night long, stealing the ball six times. Green also scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists.
Although Mesa didn't shoot the ball all that effectively, the 36-21 halftime lead was big enough to coast to their second win in a row.
Alli Gloyd also hit for 14 and seven boards. Gloyd was five of nine from the floor.
Jade Wilson notched the lone double-double for Mesa with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The T'Bird made just 26 of 62 from the floor and four of 18 from three but Scottsdale was only 20 of 47 on the night. Without the three-point shot, SCC would have been much more worse for the wear. Medder's team would hit eight of 18 from beyond the arc.
The big difference in this one was on the glass as Mesa dominated underneath to the tune of 47-20.
Mesa travels to Tucson this Saturday to take on their nemesis, the Lady Aztecs of Pima at 2:00 pm.
