Fourth Straight Double-Double For Gloyd As Ladies Cruise Again, This Time Over Phoenix College

Coach Stephenson addresses the team in a win over PC in MLK Classic on January 14

Lady T'Birds withstand tough night from floor to win by 12

Coach Stephenson knows her team will have to shoot better to make a deep run in the Region I Playoffs this season, but the team was able to overcome a poor night from the field to defeat the Lady Bears and Coach Kristi Kincaid, 55-43 on Saturday, January 14 in the afternoon game of the MLK Classic.

Alli Gloyd continues her dominance in the ACCAC, notching her fourth consecutive double-double, scoring 16 points and snagging 12 rebounds.   Gloyd was just six of 17 from the floor, but made all four free throw attempts, added two steals, a block, and an assist.

Kalasia Green added 11 points for Mesa, as the ladies move to 6-3 in conference play and 13-5 overall.

Jenay Locke chipped in with 12 points, seven boards, and six dimes as Mesa turned a five-point halftime lead into as many as 16 in half number two.

Mariam Ridgwell grabbed 11 rebounds for Mesa, as part of a team-domination on the glass, 56-36.

Ridgwell added six points, three steals, and an assist on the afternoon.

Mesa did hit on nine of 12 from the free-throw line as a team but a dismal four of 31 from beyond the arc.

Next up is a road match at South Mountain this coming Wednesday, January 18 at 5:30 pm.

With the loss, PC drops to 2-7 in the ACCAC and 5-13 overall.
