Mesa Defense Leads The Way to Win Over Texans

Lady T-Birds Use Second Half to Down South Plains

 
  The Mesa Lady Thunderbirds picked up their third win in four days Saturday, January 2nd, beating the South Plains Lady Texans 63-58. Neither team shot well, maybe showing signs of fatigue, but Mesa battled through and came out the victor.
 
  The Lady T-Birds shot 40% from the field and 29% from three. The Lady Texans followed suit shooting 38% and 11% respectively. Mesa also lost the battle of the boards 42-34, but their defense led them to victory in this one.
 
  Christina Buescher continued her solid play with 14 points, 5 boards, and 3 assists. Callina Hurley backed her up with 13 points. 
 
  Sajoyia Griffin came off the bench to lead the Lady Texans with 13 points. Christen McLee and Jasmine Taylor scored 10 and 11 respectively.
 
  Mesa trailed 29-27 at half, but their defense remained solid and the offense picked it up in the second half to lead them to victory. The game was back and forth the whole game with neither team gaining a lead of more than 10. 
 
  The Lady T-Birds used their defense to improve to 10-4 and the Lady Texans dropped to 8-4. Mesa gets right back into conference play Wednesday, January 6th at South Mountain at 5:30 pm.
