This win was just what the doctor ordered.
Mesa had been reeling of late hitting a mid-season stretch where the team seemed to be running out of gas. Losers of three of the their last four, Mesa faced an uphill battle with the #10 team in the nation in the Pima Lady Aztecs coming to town.
Balanced scoring with four players in double figures and some clutch defense keyed the huge victory for Coach Stephenson's bunch.
The Aztecs came in at 14-4 overall and 9-1 in the ACCAC and in first place in the DII standings. With the win, Mesa is now 12-7 overall and 7-4 in the ACCAC, remaining in second place in the DII standings.
Christina Buescher led all scorers with 19. She also dished out seven assists, grabbed three rebounds, hit on all four of her three-point attempts, and finished the night seven of eight from the field.
Buescher's threes came at pivotal points in the game and she knew it as she let out primal screams with her last two triples.
Briana Benjamin and Nicole Crisp each tallied 13 for Mesa. Amber Bond came through with a big night as well, scoring ten.
Callina Hurley and Katie Tomlinson crashed the boards like never before, grabbing ten and 12 respectively.
Mesa will look to ride the momentum of knocking off the DII frontrunners as they host Eastern on Saturday, January 23 at 2:00 p.m.
