#14 Assistant Coaches Reap Top Awards

Assistant coach Roger Anstine watches his team

MESA, AZ – Assistant coaches usually toil in the background, rarely receiving much credit for the success of their teams. For Mesa, however, two assistant coaches hit the national jackpot.

Roger Anstine, right, who works with the women’s tennis team, and Nick Adamson,  jumps coach with the track and field teams, each recently received national recognition.

Anstine was named International Tennis Association (ITA) Junior College Assistant Coach of the Year. He helped lead the T-Birds to the NJCAA national tournament where they finished 20th after placing second in the Region I event.

Adamson helped develop the talents of Pau Tonnensen who completed an unprecedented sweep of the multi-event championships during the last two years of NJCAA national competition. Tonnensen also won both the indoor and outdoor pole vault titles this year.  Adamson was named national Assistant Coach of the Year.
