Rough Day for Mesa Women at NJCAA Tennis

  TUCSON, AZ - Facing numerous high-seeded singles players and doubles teams, the Mesa women came away with only one victory on day two of the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship. MCC now has no players left in the main draw.

  The No. 1 doubles team of Julia Marcenco and Laura Jaramillo defeated Nicole Selvaggio and Paige Seidal, of Moraine Valley in a thrilling match, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5) but then lost to the second-seeded team of Dayana Agasieva and Diana Perez, of ASA College, 1-6, 0-6.

  In other doubles action, Mesa's No. 2 two team, Savannah Skarda and Madison Porter fell to Berjane Fatyha and Krpo Nea, of Georgia Perimeter, 2-6, 1-6 and the No. 3 squad of Haley Stermon and Karah Hedquist dropped a 3-6, 3-6 decision to Tara-beth Hall and Molly Davis, of Meridian.

  In the main draw of singles action, Porter fell to top-seeded Shawnee-ana Breisford, of Seminole St., 0-6, 0-6; Skarda, Mesa's No. 3, was beaten by fourth-seeded Jean Ochs, of Johnson County, 1-6, 2-6 and No. 4 Hedquist lost of top-seeded Kylie Reynaud, of Tyler, 1-6, 0-6.

  Marcenco at No. 1, Stermon at No. 5 and Jaramillo at No. 6 all had byes in the consolation bracket.
