T-Birds Win Four of Seven Matches on First Day of NJCAA Women's Tennis

  TUCSON, AZ - It was a good day for the Mesa women's tennis team as it won four of the seven matches it played in and received first round byes at two doubles flights on the first day of competition.

  Winning for MCC were:

No. 2 singles - Madison Porter over Brittney Sibley, Jacksonville, 6-0, 6-0

No. 3 singles - Savannah Skarda over Erica Richardson, Harford, 6-3, 6-1

No. 4 singles - Karah Hedquist over Kali DeSherlia, Lewis & Clark, 7-5, 6-3

No. 1 doubles - Julia Marcenco & Laura Jaramillo over Salvaggio & Seidal, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5)

  Losing in the first round were:

No.1  singles - Julia Marcenco lost to Cassidy Crawford, North Central Texas, 2-6, 0-6

No. 5 singles - Haley Stermon lost to Angela Mancera, State College of Florida, 2-6, 2-6

No. 6 singles - Laura Jaramillo lost to Krpo Nea, Georgia Perimter, 5-7, 1-6

Receiving byes in doubles were:

No. 2 doubles - Karda & Poter

No. 3 doubles - Stermon & Hedquist
